INTRODUCING ... Wesley Freshman And 2014 CAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Rookie Of The Year Elizsha Streeter

Winning multiple gold medals in key events in elementary school championships ignited the competitive fire for Wesley College freshman standout Elizsha Streeter, who still lives and bleeds track & field.  That drive to succeed paid off with big returns when she was named the 2014 CAC Women’s Indoor Track Rookie of the Year after leading the Wolverines to a program-best third place finish at the Conference Championships. INTRODUCING … Elizsha Streeter.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?  Back in elementary school, field day was the best day ever. I was always the winner in the potato sack race and also the obstacle course. In the 4th grade, my gym teacher wanted me to participate in the Junior Olympics. I ran the 100m dash and the 4x100 meter relay. After that, I’ve always wanted to set foot on a track and compete.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?  My major is Kinesiology and Exercise Science. The most important thing I’ve learned so far is that exercise is a must if you want to live a long, healthy life.

What is your favorite spot on campus?  I would have to say the Café. Not only because of the food of course, also because it’s time for me to socialize and be myself around my friends. Everyone knows I can be a character at times.

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?   New York is my favorite place; not only was I born and raised there, the City is just wonderful. I love to visit family and drive to the city and just shop.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.    It was February 22, 2014, and my mindset was on one thing; coming home (from the CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships) with a win for my team. Even though we got third in the team standings, it was still a successful day for me and I earned second team all-conference. To know that I worked hard and it was starting to pay off meant a lot for me and made me more determined to see where my hard work takes me in the next few years.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?   The most influential person in my life would be my high school coach, Dwayne Freeman. Not only did he teach me the skills and techniques I needed to have to become a better runner, he taught me life skills as well.  He was there for me for anything. I think I got my sense of humor from this guy.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?   The most important societal issue facing college students is sleep deprivation because most students have a lot of  things to do and not a lot of time on their hand. So when they try and sleep they think about it too much, and don’t get the proper rest to function for the next day.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  Watch Professional Track and Field. Not everyone can understand a sport that a person does unless they have actually done it.  To see someone out there who has the passion I have is awesome and I get really excited. I’m forever tweeting about it or on the phone. This is the one thing that keeps a smile on my face.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  Whatever you may choose to do it life, just remember, do it for you and because you want to. Also, make sure you are having fun while doing it. It doesn’t hurt to crack a smile or two.

Outside of the CAC, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?   My favorite sports person is Carmelita Jeter. Her passion for track gives me hope. She went from being just a regular athlete and blossomed into an amazing Olympian. Even though she had a couple down falls, she got back up and worked her way to where she is now and I totally respect that.

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   Carmelita Jeter - she can give me some running tips.  Steve Nash - he is just man candy.  And Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce -  her accent and laugh just tickles my soul. These are all my favorite athletes that I look up too, and I’d be honored to sit down with them and have dinner.
