Five CAC Women's Track & Field Teams Participate in Weekend Competition, Enter Home Stretch Towards 2014 CAC Outdoor Championships

Christopher Newport, Mary Washington and Salisbury each competed at CNU's New Captains Classic this weekend, while Frostburg State (Mason-Dixon Invitational) and York (Greyhound Invitational) also competed on Saturday. 

Christopher Newport received several first-place finishes from its women's squad as the host of the event. Deanna Corts won the 2000-steeplechase after crossing the line in 7:51.84. Jennifer Westerholm won the heptathlon with 4,230 points, followed by Enuma Ezenwa in second at 3,966. Logan Harrington won the 800 with a time of 2:15.30 and placed second in the 1500 after clocking in at 4:52.13 during her debut in the event. Julie Machamer crossed first in the 5000 at 18:23.68, while Jenna Elliott captured gold in the high jump at 1.60-meters. 

Mary Washington's Claire Harrington won the pole vault with a lead of 10'-10", while Cheyenne Falls took first in the shot put at 40'-7" as UMW finished 1-2-3 in the event. Taylor Cockerille placed second and Sheree Turner third. Jordan Watkins placed second in the triple jump at 34'-0.75". 

Salisbury freshman Sarah Taylor led a group of seven Sea Gulls in the top nine of the pole vault. Taylor placed second, clearing 10'-4". Senior Alex Greissinger also grabbed a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:08.86, as the top Division III performer. The freshmen quartet of Makiah GreenDelaney TregoningStephanie Bidle, and Jasmin Daniels placed second in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 4:11.89.

At the Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg, Frostburg State registered 17 top-five marks to take third place as a team. Freshman Anna Gomerez captured four top-five finishes to lead the Bobcats, including third in the long jump (4.81 meters) and third in the 100-meter dash (13.40). Sophomore Russia Tatum finished runner-up in both the 100-meter (13.60) and 200-meter dash (28.48), while Tiffany Cancel was second in the discus throw with an ECAC qualifying toss of 36.75 meters. Freshman Laurie Gotte captured the team's second runner-up finish in the 10,000-meter run (49:33.98).

For York at the Greyhound Invitational hosted by Moravian, Emily Cronise put together the highlight of the day, securing top honors in the 800 meters 2:18.99 in a field of 41 competitors.
