Christopher Newport Runs Away With 2014 CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Title

2014 CAC Outdoor Championship Results 

Competing on its home track, Christopher Newport successfully defended its home turf by capturing the 2014 CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Sunday at Pomoco Stadium. The Captains collected six golds throughout Sunday's day two to run away with the title with 198 points. 

Mary Washington (128) narrowly edged out Salisbury (126) for second place in the team standings, followed by Wesley (92), York (43), and Frostburg State (33). 

Enuma Ezenwa led CNU with two individual golds and a relay triumph. Ezenwa posted championship-meet records in both the 100 hurdles (14.56) and 400 hurdles (1:03.70) en route to victory, and later teamed with Logan Harrington, Jessica McClelland, and Jennifer Westerholm to set a new CAC record in the 4x400 relay at 3:56.85. 

Harrington and McClelland also had strong individual days for CNU with a gold and a silver apiece. Harrington took first in the 800 in a championship-meet record 2:16.54, followed closely by McLelland, while the two reversed places in the 1500 as McLelland claimed top honors in a meet record 4:43.52, with Harrington in second. Leah Richardson also posted a top finish for the Captains, taking first in the 400 meters in a meet-record time of 57.40. 

Mary Washington saw three Eagles earn gold-medal placings, led by Natalie Young's meet-record showing in the 5000 meters (18:15.25) for her second title of the weekend. Young also claimed top honors in the 10,000 on Saturday. 

In the throwing events, UMW's Sheree Turner delivered a meet-record throw in the discus (40.94), while Cheyenne Falls took first in the shot put at 42'-02.25". 

Salisbury's Meghan McGowan took first in the high jump with a CAC-record leap of 5'-05.00". 

Elizsha Streeter led fourth-place Wesley with two first-place finishes to go along with second and third-place marks. Streeter won the 200 meters in 25.66, took second in the 400 and third in the 100. She also grabbed gold in the 4x100 relay in the CAC-record time (48.63) with Kameko Webb, Angel Hall, and Kiona Mency. Mency also secured a top finish for theWolverines in the 100 meters (12.45). 

Other individual champions included York's Jenna Roberts in the 3000-meter steeplechase, and Frostburg State's Alexis Bush in the long jump.
