Christopher Newport Captures Third Straight CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Title

The Christopher Newport women's track & field team secured its third consecutive CAC championship on Saturday as the Captains won six individual titles to clinch the team crown at Frostburg State's Bobcat Stadium.
 
Overall, CNU posted 178 points, which out-distanced runner-up Salisbury by 50. Wesley took third with 118 points, while York (88), Mary Washington (62), Frostburg State (29) and Penn State Harrisburg (17) rounded out the team scores. 

Logan Harrington and Jennifer Westerholm led the way for CNU with two individual titles apiece. Harrington won the 800 meters (2:21.24) and 1,500 (4:53.09) for the second straight year, while Westerholm took top honors in the 400 hurdles (1:05.69) and long jump (5.24m). Also claiming gold for the Captains were Lydia Cromwell in the 3,000 steeplechase, her second straight outdoor title in the event, and Jessica Brownell in the pole vault (3.05m). 

Salisbury received first-place finishes from Chanel Beaudoin and Meghan McGowan. Beaudoin broke the CAC Championship meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.91, while McGowan won her third straight high jump crown at 1.65m. 

Wesley recorded five gold-medal marks, with four coming in the sprints and relays. Elizsha Streeter secured three golds, winning the 200 meters for the third straight year at 24.89 seconds, while also contributing to the record-breaking 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads. Alexia Mitchell won the 100 at 12.29 seconds. Mitchell and Streeter teamed with Briana Artis and Angel Hall in the 4x100 in a championship record time of 48.21, while Streeter, Hall, Artis and Quadira Minus broke the championship record in the 4x400 at 3:55.45. Monshea Newsome-Murray also claimed gold for the Wolverines inthe triple jump (11.41m). 

York received gold-medal performances from Kathleen Cannon in the 5,000 (18.36.80) and Alicia Dillman in the 10,000 in a championship meet record time of 39:11.12. 

Mary Washington shined in the throws, with Sheree Turner collecting top honors in the discus (39.90m) and hammer (44.97m), and Taylor Cockerille winning the shot put at 12.48m. 

Frostburg State and Penn State Harrisburg each had one individual champion, as Frostburg State's Zoe Harris won the javelin (37.79m) and Penn State Harrisburg's Ashley Williams won the 100 hurdles (14.39).
