FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel and Southern Virginia freshman Mesi Havea collected CAC Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards for April 10, 2018.

Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this year after registering wins in the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the Battleground Relays hosted by Mary Washington. Truesdel won the 100 in 13.04 and the 200 in 25.38, hitting ECAC Championship marks in both events. Her 200 time ranks tied for 13th in the nation. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Southern Virginia freshman Mesi Havea earned CAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades after winning both the discus and shot put at the Battleground Relays. Havea won the discus with a throw of 39.76 meters, which ranks second in the CAC and 38th nationally. She won the shot put at 11.71 meters, the third best mark in the conference this spring.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport sophomore Samantha Dickerson posted the conference's top mark in the 5,000 during the Colonial Relays on Friday evening, completing the event in 17:58.92, which marked the top time by a Division III competitor at the meet. That clocking also stands as the fastest time in the CAC this year by over 10 seconds. With that performance, she became the third Captain in program history to break the 18-minute mark and the first to do so since 2004. Overall, her time ranks second in CNU history. Senior Hannah Shoemaker moved into the top-15 nationally in the shot put with her performance on Saturday afternoon at the Colonial Relays. She finished sixth overall and first among Division III competitors after unleashing a season-best 13.30-meter toss. That ranks as the 12th-best mark in the NCAA this year and the finest effort in the CAC and South / Southeast Region ... Freshman Ashley Applegate took top honors for Mary Washington in the Battleground Relays, finishing first in the 3000 meter steeplechase, with a time of 12:58.05. Sophomore Quintasia Horsley gained a first and second place in jumps for Mary Washington at the Battleground Relays. She was second in the triple jump at 34 feet, 7.75 inches, and won the long jump at 15 feet, 8.25 inches.​Southern Virginia freshman Clarissa Barton finished first in the women's 3,000 meters and second in the 1500 meters (5:03) at the Battleground Relays with a time of 11:01. Her versatility across all distances has been on full display throughout the entire outdoor season, as she now has two top-five performances in the CAC.
