Christopher Newport Captures Fifth Straight CAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Title

Christopher Newport captured the CAC women's track & field outdoor championship for the fifth season in a row on Saturday in Salisbury, Md. The Captains tallied 144 points to edge second-place Salisbury (142) by just two points throughout the two-day meet. 

Mary Washington was close behind in third place with 129 points, with York (115) and Wesley (94) also in the top five of the team standings. Frostburg State finished sixth with 73 points, with Penn State Harrisburg (52) and Southern Virginia (28) in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Six records fell throughout the two-day event, headlined by two new records from Christopher Newport's Monica Lannen. Lannen won the 800 meters in a CAC championship record time of 2:16.10, besting the mark of 2:16.54 set by former CNU standout Logan Harrington in 2014. Lannen also took gold in the 1500, crossing in a CAC championship record of 4:42.97. The previous CAC championship 1500 mark of 4:43.52 was set by CNU's Jessica McClelland in 2014. 

Southern Virginia's Mesi Havea etched her name into the record books in the discus, recording a CAC and championship meet record toss of 41.49 meters. 

Mary Washington's Erin Andrewlevich set a new championship meet record in the 400 meters with a time of 56.70, while the Frostburg State 4x100 relay squad of Kayla Truesdel, Gabbriell Reason, Keileen Estrada, and Destiny Logan set a new championship standard at 47.80. 

The other record-breaking performance occured on Friday, as Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas brok the CAC and championship records in the pole vault at 3.76 meters. 

In addition to Lannen's record-setting day, CNU's Hannah Shoemaker repeated as the shot put champion with a makr of 13.30 meters. 

Frostburg State's Truesdel put together another impressive championship to close out her CAC career, taking top honors in the 100 (12.10) and 200 (25.15). 

Mary Washington's Jillian Weisbeck secured her second title in the distance events on Saturday, crossing first in the 5,000 with a time of 18:19.15. Weisbeck also won the 10,000 during Friday's action. 

York grabbed a pair of individual titles, with Alayna DeBruin winning the 3,000 steeplechase at 11:53.06 and Anne Measley taking top honors in the 400 hurdles at 1:05.58. 

Wesley also won a pair of events, with Ashley Morris securing gold in the 100 hurdles (14.74) and the 4x400 team of Quadira Minus, Briana Artis, Briyanna Woods and Maysha Foster earned gold with a time of 3:57.82. 

Salisbury's Jacqueline Seymour won the high jump (1.59m), Penn State Harrisburg's Sarah Lehman secured gold in the triple jump (11.56m).
