FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- ​Christopher Newport's Samantha Dickerson & Sarah Johnson were honored as the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Feb. 5, 2019.

​Christopher Newport junior Samantha Dickerson registered the Capital Athletic Conference?s fastest time in the 5000 this year during the Camel City Invitational on Friday. During the race, she finished in 18:26.37, which is over 10 seconds faster than the next best clocking by a CAC athletic this year. It also ranks as the fifth-best mark in program history.

Christopher Newport senior Sarah Johnson finished second overall - and first among Division III competitors - in the shot put at the Vince Brown Invitational on Sunday. During the event, she unleashed a 12.63-meter toss, which stands fourth in program history - trailing only former All-Americans Claudia Stanley, Rachael Clark, and Hannah Shoemaker. That performance capped off a busy weekend for the senior after she placed second among Division III performers in the shot put and weight throw during the Camel City Invitational. She posted an 11.69-meter toss in the shot on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track after landing a 13.85-meter heave in the weight throw on Friday.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas captured one of Salisbury's six victories at the Vince Brown Invitational earning the win in the pole vault. Dumas cleared the bar at a height of 10' 8.25" to earn the win. Dumas currently ranks 35th in the nation in the women's pole vault...Salisbury's Shea McCloskey turned in a solid performance for the maroon and gold at the Vince Brown Invitational. McCloskey captured one of six victories for the Sea Gulls earning the win in the 800-meter run coming in a time of 2:25.42. McCloskey was also vital in aiding the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Caitlyn Rishell, Glory Ebinama, Jamie Farley, and herself earn a second-place finish completing the race in a time of 4:13.04....Southern Virgnia's Baylee Mulitalo won the shot put at the NYC DIII Invitational at one of the nation's premier facilities with a throw of 12.51m. Mulitalo remains first in the conference in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw...Penn State Harrisburg's Sarah Lehman continued her impressive sophomore campaign at Susquehanna's SU Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 2, finishing as the highest Division III competitor in the triple jump, long jump and 60m hurdle events. The Mechanicsburg, Pa. native jumped 11.11 meters to earn a runner-up finish in the triple jump, while her top effort of 5.28 meters was good enough for third in the long jump. She also came home third in the hurdles after qualifying for the finals with a scamper of 9.91 seconds. The reigning CAC Rookie of the Year topped competitors from Division II schools the likes of Shippensburg, Kutztown, IUP and Millersville in all three events...York's Taylor Barkdoll had another strong showing at the Susquehanna Indoor Challenge on Saturday in Selinsgrove. Barkdoll finished third in the 3,000 meter run as she crossed the line in a time of 10:59.59...The Frostburg State relay team of first-year Camryn Blake, junior Keileen Estrada, junior Gabbriell Reason and sophomore Maddison Watson crossed the finish line with a time of 1:51.38 in the 4x200-meter relay to earn a victory at the SU Challenge at Susquehanna.
