FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- ​Christopher Newport's Monica Lannen and Southern Virginia's Baylee Mulitalo were honored as the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Jan. 22, 2019.

​Christopher Newport junior Monica Lannen registered the conference's top time in the mile this year during the Keydet Invitational on January 19 at VMI. During the meet, she clocked in at 5:15.05, which led all Division III runners at the competition and marked the top time in the CAC this year by over seven seconds. It also stands as the sixth-best clocking in CNU history. 

 

 

 

Field Athlete of the Week

Baylee Mulitalo | Southern Virginia | Fr. 

Southern Virginia freshman thrower Baylee Mulitalo finished second overall at Collegeville Classic in Collegeville, Pa. Mulitalo's throw of 12.96m has her currently 14th in the country in the shot put besting her previous throw of 12.53m which was sitting 24th nationally.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York's Katie Krutz had a big day at the Coach I Open hosted by Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Krutz won the pole vault with a school record height of 3.06 meters. Krutz also earned a seventh place finish in the long jump with a best distance of 4.32 meters. She won the pole vault by .16 meters (6.25")...Freshman Jordan Haberstroh had a strong performance on Saturday at the Coach I Open in Lancaster, PA. Haberstroh finished second in the one mile run with a time of 5:38.05. She finished just under five seconds back of event winner Eva Keohane from Division II Lemoyne.....At the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia University on January 11, Frostburg State's Holly Van Wie posted a runner-up showing in the weight throw in 12.57 meters and she finished in 10th in the shot put in 9.15 meters...sophomore Maddison Watson finished third in the women's 400-meter dash. She was also a member of the Frostburg 4x400-meter relay team that placed fifth....Penn State Harrisburg's Sarah Lehman's stellar season continued for Penn State Harrisburg at St. Thomas Aquinas' Spartan Invitational and TCNJ's Lions Indoor Invitational on Jan. 11 and Jan. 12, respectively. In fields that included Division I and Division II competitors, the sophomore was the top Division III finisher in both the long and triple jump events on Friday, posting leaps of 5.22 meters and 11.15 meters, with both marks earning her top-five finishes in the respective events. The reigning conference rookie of the year also took to the track to combine with teammates to run a 1:49.61 in the 4x200m relay; an ECAC-qualifying mark good enough to rank second among competing Division III foursomes, while her time of 9.90 in the 60m hurdles currently ranks third in the conference. Again facing Division I and II competition the next day, Lehman followed up by clinching seventh-place in the long jump with a mark of 5.22 meters before claiming fifth place in the triple jump with a bound of 11.25 meters...Rae Rae Taylor showed off her versatility at meets hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas and TCNJ on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12, respectively. On Friday, the sophomore combined with teammates to run a 1:49.61 in the 4x200m relay; an ECAC-qualifying mark good enough to rank second among competing Division III foursomes. Her time of 8.19 in the 60m dash was also quick enough yo tie her program record in the event, rank second in the conference and qualify for ECACs. The next day, she moved into second place on the program's record book in the 60m hurdles with a mark of 9.69 seconds; a time also good enough to rank second in the CAC. In the field, she also earned a top-10 finish in the long jump, as her best leap of 5.19 meters was good enough for eighth in a group that included Division I and II athletes.
