The Frostburg State volleyball team brought a championship-caliber performance to Bobcat Arena on Saturday afternoon as it defeated Mary Washington, 3-0, to win the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference title - FSU's first championship since joining the conference.

The Eagles, led by three former local high school stars, have dominated all season long in the Capital Athletic Conference, earning second place and a spot in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Salisbury sophomore setter/RS CARLEY TODD (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Nov. 1, 2010, after leading the Sea Gulls to four wins in five matches, including an important 3-2 decision over visiting York that clinched the No. 3 seed and a home match in the 2010 CAC playoffs. Todd contributed 39 kills, 100 assists, eight service aces, 48 digs and 19 block assists as Salisbury improved to 22-11. Against the Spartans, she dished out 24 assists, had 15 digs, one ace and six block assists.

Frostburg State senior outside hitter SARAH STEPHENS (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 25, 2010, after leading the Bobcats to the regular-season CAC title and top seed in the upcoming playoffs with four wins last week, including a pair of CAC triumphs. Stephens averaged 14 kills, 10.75 digs per match and hit for .280 as FSU shut out Hood, St. Mary’s and two non-conference foes. She also chipped in three service aces for the Bobcats, who extended their win streak to eight.

Mary Washington junior hitter TOLA ADEBANJO (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 18, 2010, after leading the Eagles to a pair of victories, including a critical 3-2 decision over St. Mary’s. Adebanjo had 18 kills and hit for .394 percent and chipped in 15 digs in UMW’s victory over the Seahawks, which lifted the Eagles into second place in the CAC standings. She then added eight kills, a .400 hitting percentage, two service aces and 12 digs in a weekend shutout victory over Lynchburg.

York senior middle hitter ALISHIA WALTERMYER (Brogue, Pa./Red Lion) was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 11, 2010, after leading YCP to a 3-0 midweek CAC win over Stevenson and earning Most Valuable Player honors and leading the Spartans to the Championship of the Hampton Inn Crusader Classic at Susquehanna. For the week, Waltermyer had 60 points in five matches, including 51 kills, a .382 hitting percentage, 15 total blocks, two assists and six digs, helping the Spartans win their fourth tournament this season and extend their win streak to 21 matches.

Frostburg State senior outside hitter SARAH STEPHENS (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 3, 2010, after leading the Bobcats to three shutout victories, including a pair of conference triumphs. Stephens was consistent at the net, recording 15 kills against Stevenson, 14 against Marymount and 16 against Washington (Md.). She hit for .302 for the week, including a pair of outings over .300 and chipped in one assist and two service aces. She contributed 13 of her 28 digs in handing Stevenson its second loss of the season.

Stevenson freshman setter JESSICA GIESELMAN (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 27, 2010, after leading the Mustangs to a 3-0 week, increasing the team’s win streak to 12. Gieselman averaged 30 assists per match, including a season-best 39 to hold off a pesky Wesley squad in a mid-week CAC battle. She also contributed 20 kills, a .400 hitting percentage, eight service aces, 26 digs and seven block assists for the first-place Mustangs.

York sophomore libero ASHLEY RINEMAN (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) was named CAC Volleyball of the Week for Sept. 20, 2010, after leading the Spartans to a 5-0 week (15-2 in sets) and earning Tournament MVP honors as the Spartans captured top honors at the Neumann Knight Invitational. Her totals for the week, which included two CAC foes, included 101 digs and nine service aces along with six assists and one kill.She served at .925% while received serves at a .939% clip. Four of her service aces were in the tournament championship victory over Widener.

York junior OH JULIE COOMBS (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) was named CAC Volleyball of the Week for Sept. 13, 2010, after leading the Spartans to a 5-0 week, including a 3-1 decision against Elizabethtown, avenging the team’s lone setback this season. Coombs contributed 66 kills and a .314 hitting percentage while adding 58 digs, five service aces, two assists and three block assists. In the re-match vs. E-town at the Dickinson Tournament, Coombs powered YCP with 19 kills, a .459 attack percentage and 16 digs.

Stevenson freshman setter JESSICA GEISELMAN (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) was named CAC Volleyball of the Week for Sept. 6, 2010. The Mustang newcomer had a strong week at the net with 29 kills, just one error and a 538 hitting percentage. But she also contributed 80 assists, 24 service aces, 33 digs, seven block assists and was named to the All-Tournament team at the Eastern Mennonite tournament as Stevenson won four of its first five matches.
