St. Mary's, Frostburg State Secure Final Two CAC Volleyball Playoff Berths; Mary Washington Locks Up Third Seed

St. Mary's and Frostburg State claimed the final two CAC volleyball playoff berths by virtue of a coin flip tiebreaker on the final day of the CAC regular season Saturday, while Mary Washington locked up the third seed in the upcoming six-team tournament with a triumph over Penn State Harrisburg.

St. Mary's defeated Frostburg State 3-0 early Saturday afternoon, while York fell to Salisbury 3-1, forcing a three-way tie for fifth in the CAC standings. Following a tiebreaking coin flip, York was the odd team left out as St. Mary's earned the fifth seed and Frostburg State the sixth seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Mary Washington (6-2) and Marymount (5-3) were deadlocked entering Saturday's contests, but the Eagles secured the third seed with a sweep over the Lions, while the Saints fell to regular season champion Christopher Newport (8-0), by a score of 3-0, and slid into fourth.

With the final day of the regular season complete, the playoff field is now set. Top-seeded Christopher Newport and second-seeded Salisbury earned first round byes and will host the winners of Tuesday's opening round matchups in Thursday's semifinals.

Third-seeded Mary Washington hosts sixth-seeded Frostburg State in the first round, while fourth-seeded Marymount hosts fifth-seeded St. Mary's.
