Christopher Newport Sweeps Salisbury to Claim CAC Volleyball Championship
Top-seeded Christopher Newport defeated second-seeded Salisbury 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to secure the CAC volleyball championship in its first year in the conference.
The Captains (24-12), ranked fifth in this week's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional rankings, snapped the Sea Gulls' two-year reign over the conference crown to earn the CAC's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with the victory.
Briana Sutton (12 kills) and Hannah Miller (10 kills) recorded double-digit kills to pace the attack for Christopher Newport, while Brooke Moore led the defense with 12 digs and Rachel Conway dished out 38 assists.
The Sea Gulls (29-5), ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region, must now wait to see if they receive an at-large selection into the NCAA postseason.
