Christopher Newport, Mary Washington, Salisbury and St. Mary's Grab CAC Volleyball Victories; Southern Virginia Posts Pair of Wins

With one week of CAC volleyball matches remaining in the regular season, the playoff picture became a bit more clear following this weekend's contests. Christopher Newport (6-0), Salisbury (5-1), Mary Washington (5-1), and Marymount (4-2) have already secured berths in the upcoming six-team CAC playoffs, while Frostburg State (3-4), St. Mary's (2-4), and York (2-4) are battling it out for the final two spots in the postseason. Wesley (1-6) and Penn State Harrisburg (0-6) have been mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture.

On Friday, Mary Washington handed Marymount its second CAC loss with a 3-1 triumph, moving the Eagles into sole possession of third place in the standings at 5-1. The Eagles will face off against first-place Christopher Newport on Wednesday looking to force a three-way tie with the Captains and Salisbury at the top of the standings.

Christopher Newport downed York 3-0 in CAC action on Saturday, before concluding the day with a 3-1 defeat to Washington & Lee. The Spartans also fell to W&L in non-conference play, dropping a 3-0 decision. Both Christopher Newport and York have two CAC contests remaining in their schedules. A victory over Mary Washington on Wednesday would give the Captains the No. 1 seed in the CAC playoffs, while the Spartans remain in the thick of things for one of the two remaining spots in the postseason tournament.

Salisbury swept Frostburg State 3-0 to move to 5-1 in the conference and stay in position for a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Sea Gulls need just one win and a Mary Washington loss to lock of a top-two seed, while the Bobcats will be looking to lock up a bid in Saturday's regular season finale against St. Mary's.

St. Mary's blanked Wesley 3-0 on Saturday to keep its hopes of a CAC playoff bid alive. The Seahawks await key matchups against Marymount and Frostburg State next week that will determine their postseason fate.

Southern Virginia earned a pair of victories on Saturday, defeating Penn State Harrisburg 3-0 and Roanoke 3-2. Although not eligible for the CAC postseason this season as a provisional NCAA member, the Knights now boast a 5-4 mark against CAC foes this season.
