Christopher Newport Nabs Top Seed in CAC Volleyball Tournament; Salisbury Secures Second Seed, Mary Washington and Marymount Earn Playoff Bids

Christopher Newport captured the top seed in the CAC volleyball playoffs with a 3-0 sweep over Mary Washington on Wednesday night. The Captains (7-0) remained perfect in CAC play with the win, and will wrap up their regular season at Marymount on Saturday. The Captains, ranked eighth in the Mid-Atlantic region, will then host the winner of Tuesday's first round matchup between the yet to be determined No. 4 and No. 5 seeds in Thursday's semifinals.

Salisbury, a 3-0 winner over Wesley on Wednesday, locked up the No. 2 seed and a first round bye in the CAC playoffs with the triumph. The Sea Gulls (6-1), whose only loss in CAC play came against Christopher Newport back on Oct. 2, will host the winner of Tuesday's first round contest between the No. 3 and No. 6 seeds.

Mary Washington (5-2) and Marymount (5-2) have each secured playoff berths and will host first round contests next Tuesday as the third and fourth seeds in the CAC tournament. A Mary Washington victory gives the Eagles the No. 3 seed, while the Saints need a victory and a Mary Washington loss to claim the No. 3 spot. Mary Washington travels to Penn State Harrisburg, while Marymount hosts Christopher Newport.

Frostburg State (3-4), York (2-4) and St. Mary's (2-5) are vying for the final two spots in the playoffs. On Saturday, Frostburg State hosts St. Mary's, while York hosts Salisbury.
