Christopher Newport Volleyball Sweeps Gallaudet In NCAA First Round
Christopher Newport rolled to a 3-0 victory over Gallaudet in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament on Friday night at the Freeman Center in Newport News, Va. The host Captains topped the Bison by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 to move on to the second round.
CNU (32-3) advances to Saturday's second round, where the Captains will face off against Stevenson (30-5), a 3-2 winner over Richard Stockton in the third of the four matches of the day at the Freeman Center. The matchup is set for a 6 p.m. start.
Saturday's other regional semifinal at the Freeman Center features Eastern (30-5) vs. Haverford (22-9) at 3:30 p.m. The two semifinal winners will face off on Sunday at 4 p.m. with a spot in the NCAA Elite 8 on the line.
Rachel Conway dished out 35 assists to go along with six digs and four kills to help lead the Captains to the win. Briana Sutton recorded a match-high 13 kills while hitting .429, and also secured six digs in the win. Brooke Moore led the defensive effort with a match-high 18 digs.
