Four CAC Volleyball Players Earn AVCA All-America Honors; CNU's Sutton Named to First Team

Complete AVCA All-America Team

Four CAC volleyball players earned All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday afternoon, highlighted by Christopher Newport's Briana Sutton being named to the first team.

Sutton was one of three Captains to earn All-America recognition, along with Rachel Conway and Hannah Miller, while Salisbury's Katie Stouffer also received the honor. Sutton was a first team pick, Conway landed on the second team, and Miller and Stouffer were named honorable mentions.

All three Captains earned the national honor for the second straight year and were first-team All-Conference and All-Region selections earlier this season as well.

Sutton, the 2015 CAC Player of the Year, posted 4.12 kills-per-set average while hitting .313 percent, both of which ranked third in the CAC. She also pocketed a career-high 203 digs and contributed seven double-doubles during the season. She notched six 20-kill efforts, including five against NCAA Tournament teams. In just her third season, Sutton already ranks ninth on CNU's all-time list with 1,033 career kills. Her 3.14 kills-per-set average over the past three years also places her seventh in CNU history, while her .262 career hitting percentage is the 12th highest all-time and the third-finest among outside hitters.

Conway capped off her career with a stellar senior campaign. She averaged 10.65 assists-per-set, which ranked atop the CAC and 14th in the nation. She had at least 40 assists on 13 occasions, including a career-high 62 against No. 4 Emory. A well-rounded contributor, Conway also collected six double-doubles and blistered 35 aces. Her 50 blocks during the year also ranked third on the team and helped her become just the second setter in CNU history to register at least 50 blocks in three consecutive seasons. Wrapping up her career as one of the program's most accomplished setters, Conway leaves Christopher Newport ranked fourth with 3,521 career assists. Her 8.59 assists-per-set average also places her second on CNU's all-time list.

Miller was an imposing force on both sides of the ball for the Captains. The junior standout ranked second on the team with 302 kills and a .302 hitting percentage. Just as effective on the defensive end, she averaged 0.85 blocks-per-set and finished the season with 97 total rejections, including 17 solo stops. She collected 14 double-digit kill efforts, including six against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Miller already sits third all-time at CNU with 335 career blocks. Her .296 hitting percentage over the last three years also stands seventh in program history, while her 914 kills place her 12th on the career list.

Together, the three All-Americans helped carry Christopher Newport to a 30-3 record in 2015. Along the way, the team won the Capital Athletic Conference championship and ripped off an 18-match winning streak while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Salisbury's Stouffer earned All-America honorable mention honors after putting together another impressive season for the Sea Gulls. She led the CAC with 4.98 kills per set and ranked third in the conference with a .320 hitting percentage. Her kills per set also ranks third in the nation. She also ranked third on the team with 53 total blocks, fifth with 30 service aces, and sixth with 136 digs. Stouffer was a All-CAC First Team and All-Region First Team selection earlier this season. The Sea Gulls posted a 24-8 record and advanced to the CAC title match for the third straight year.
