Christopher Newport Sweeps Hunter in First Round of NCAA Volleyball Tournament Action; Mary Washington Falls to Case Western

Christopher Newport opened up NCAA Volleyball Tournament action with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-21) victory over Hunter, while Mary Washington's season came to a close with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 25-23) defeat to Case Western. 

With the victory, fifth-ranked CNU (30-2) advances to the second round and will meet Randolph-Macon in round two on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Galloway, N.J. Randolph-Macon (26-7) defeated Stevenson 3-1 on Friday afternoon. 

Leading CNU was Maddie McCann with 13 kills and a .478 hitting percentage, while Abby McIntyre added nine kills and four aces. Hannah Miller posted eight kills to go along with a team-high three blocks, Rachel Conway notched 27 assists, and Rachel Close secured a match-high 11 digs. 

In Huntingdon, Pa., Mary Washington's season came to a close with a 3-1 defeat to Case Western. The Eagles close the year with a 23-8 record. Emma Olson led UMW with 41 assists, 13 digs and six kills, Rachel Hendricks recorded 16 kills, and Ryan Cho and Jenna Yost posted 14 digs apiece.
