Salisbury Junior Katie Stouffer Honored as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury junior Katie Stouffer was named CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 15, 2015.

Salisbury junior Katie Stouffer was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week after leading the Sea Gulls to a 4-1 record last week, including a 4-0 clip at the Buttermaker Tournament over the weekend. Stouffer posted 15-plus kills in each match, including two with over 20 kills, for 96 on the week, while adding five service aces, 18 digs, and 14 total blocks. She put down 25 kills in the team's 3-1 win over Stevenson to capture the Buttermaker Tournament championship, along with seven digs, as both were highs for the week. She accumulated 111 points for the Gulls during the week, scoring 6.2 points per set. For the week she averaged 5.33 kills per set while hitting .277 percent, to go along with 1.00 digs and 0.78 blocks per set.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport jumped from No. 6 to No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Week 1 Top-25, released last Tuesday. CNU also received one first-place vote in the poll while Mary Washington was just outside the top-25, receiving three votes ... CNU remained the only unbeaten in the CAC with a 4-0 record last week. Briana Sutton posted a tournament-high 70 kills at the Beacons Invitational, including a career-high 21 in the Captains' four-set triumph over No. 12 Eastern on Saturday. Her 21 against the Eagles were the most by a Captain in a four-set match since 2004. Meanwhile, her 39 kills on Friday (20 against Saint Benedict, 19 against UMass Boston) were the most in a doubleheader by a Captain in exactly 11 years (Tricia Nelsen registered 42 during a twin bill on September 11, 2004) ... Frostburg State's Madelyn Torres handed out 183 assists on the week as the Bobcats went 2-3. Torres earned all-tournament team honors at the Penn State Behrend Tournament ... Mary Washington, which received votes in last week's national poll, defeated 18th ranked Mount Union on Saturday, for the program's first-ever win over a nationally ranked opponent. Sophomore Jenna Yost was named to the all-tournament team at the ASICS/Juniata Invitational ... Marymount put together an impressive 4-1 week, including a three-set sweep of Washington (Md.) and a five-set defeat of Catholic. The Saints went 3-1 at the Catholic Invitational over the weekend, with junior Cailyn Thomas being named to the all-tournament team ... Southern Virginia's Allison Tiegs was named to the all-tournament team and had a total of 43 kills during the Washington and Lee Invitational last weekend ... Wesley's Meghan Marshall posted a season-high 24 digs against Marywood. Marshall and the Wolverines went 2-2 last week ... York went 4-1 last week including a 3-1 mark at the 22nd Warrior Tip Off Classic at Lycoming. Katie Graziano was named to the all-tournament team totaling 124 digs in 18 sets, an average of 6.89 digs per game. For the year, Graziano is has played in all 37 Spartan sets as she has totaled 235 digs, good for an average of 6.35 digs per game.
