Christopher Newport Sweeps Salisbury for Third Straight CAC Volleyball Title

Top-seeded and sixth-ranked Christopher Newport continued its run of perfection against CAC opponents as the Captains swept second-seeded Salisbury, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23), to secure their third straight CAC Volleyball Championship on Saturday at the Freeman Center in Newport News, Va. 

The victory earns CNU (29-2) the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The national bracket will be announced with a selection show on NCAA.com at 11 a.m. on Monday.

Including CAC postseason matches, the Captains have now secured a 32-0 record against CAC competition since joining the league in 2013. This marked the third straight year that CNU and Salisbury met in the title match, with CNU sweeping all three matchups. 

Hannah Miller led the Captains with 12 kills on just 18 swings for a .611 hitting percentage while also contributing five block assists. Rachel Conway dished out 32 assists while Rachel Close led CNU in digs with 12. Ashley Rock posted an all-around stat line with six kills, two aces, and four blocks.
 
Leading Salisbury (24-8) was Shannon Russell with 13 kills and nine digs, while Rachel Pierson dished out 31 assists.
