Mary Washington moved onto the second round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament with a 3-0 victory over Cabrini on Friday, while Christopher Newport bowed out of the postseason with a 3-1 defeat to Johns Hopkins in Fredericksburg, Va. 

Mary Washington (29-3), hosting an eight-team regional at Ron Rosner Arena, capped off the four-match day with a 3-0 victory over Cabrini with game scores of 25-12, 25-1, 25-14.

Mary Washington claimed its first NCAA Tournament win since 1991, and will host Randolph-Macon, a 3-1 winner over Stevenson on Friday, on Saturday in second round action starting at 5 p.m. Juniata and Johns Hopkins will meet in the other second-round match at 2:30 p.m.

UMW was led by Savannah Powers, who scored 12 kills on 18 attempts to go with nine digs, and Peyton Dunow, who scored 11 kills, three aces, and three total blocks. Leslie Walters had eight kills and three block assists, and Rachel Hendricks added seven kills.

Christopher Newport saw its season come to a close with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 25-16) defeat to Johns Hopkins during the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon at Mary Washington's Rosner Arena. With the setback, CNU ends 2016 with a 25-10 record. 

Maddie McCann punctuated her career with 13 kills for CNU, while fellow senior Briana Sutton added 10. Defensively, Rachel Close pocketed a team-high 14 digs, Evelyn Harper collected 13, and Hannah Miller assisted on four blocks.
