Christopher Newport to Host Four CAC Fall Championships on Saturday

After earning the the tops seeds and winning home semifinal matchups in field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball, Christopher Newport is set to host a quartet of CAC Championships on a jam-packed Saturday of action in Newport News, Va. 

The Captains are also set to host a football game on Saturday, making for a hectic day on the CNU campus. CAC action will begin at noon with the CAC volleyball championship rematch between Christopher Newport and Mary Washington. In another rematch of last year, Christopher Newport men's soccer hosts Mary Washington for a 5 p.m. kickoff, followed by a 6 p.m. start for a field hockey showdown between the Captains and Salisbury. The women's soccer championship will feature yet another rematch with CNU and Frostburg State rounding out the day's championship action at 8 p.m.

Top-seeded and 23rd-ranked Christopher Newport (26-3) will host second-seeded Mary Washington (19-9) in a rematch of last year's title match at noon. 

This marks CNU's fifth straight championship game appearance. The Captains captured three straight titles from 2013-15 before falling to the Eagles in last year's title match. UMW, meanwhile, is seeking its second straight and third overall CAC crown following last year's championship run.

CNU defeated UMW 3-2 in Fredericksburg in the regular season matchup between the two sides on Oct. 12. 


MEN'S SOCCER - #3 Mary Washington at #1 Christopher Newport, 5 p.m. | Live Stats | Video

Top-seeded Christopher Newport (14-2-1) will host third-seeded Mary Washington (14-4-1) in the opening game of a CAC soccer championship doubleheader at Captains Field. The Captains are hosting the title game for the second straight year, as they defeated the Eagles 1-0 in last year's final. CNU seeks its second-straight and third overall conference title. 

Mary Washington is looking for its ninth CAC crown and first since 2001. This is UMW's 15th title game appearance. 

In the regular season meeting, CNU edged UMW 2-1 on Oct. 21 in Fredericksburg. 


FIELD HOCKEY - #2 Salisbury at #1 Christopher Newport, 6 p.m.  | Live Stats | Video

Top-seeded and fifth-ranked Christopher Newport (16-1) will host second-seeded and sixth-ranked Salisbury (12-3) in a top-10 clash for the CAC's automatic bid to NCAA's. This marks the third championship matchup between the two sides, with Salisbury coming away with one-goal overtime victories in both 2013 and 2014. 

Salisbury is looking to claim its fifth straight and 21st overall CAC title, while the Captains are aiming for their first conference title since joining the CAC in 2013. 

The Captains edged the Sea Gulls 1-0 in their regular season matchup on Sept. 30 in Newport News. 


WOMEN'S SOCCER - #2 Frostburg State at #1 Christopher Newport, 8 p.m. | Live Stats | Video

Top-seeded and eighth-ranked Christopher Newport (17-0-1) will host second-seeded Frostburg State (9-7-2) in the women's soccer title game to round out the championship action on Saturday on CNU's campus. 

The Captains are looking for their second CAC title in a row after downing the Bobcats 1-0 in last year's championship. This marks the third title appearance in the last five years for CNU, while the Bobcats qualified for the championship for the fourth time in the last six season. Frostburg State seeks its third CAC crown (2012 & 2014). 

CNU defeated Frostburg State 4-0 in the regular season matchup between the two sides on Oct. 7 in Newport News.
