Christopher Newport Downs Thomas More 3-2 in NCAA Volleyball First Round
Christopher Newport defeated Thomas More 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament on Thursday evening in Atlanta, Ga. Game scores were 16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 15-11.
With the victory the Captains (28-3) advance to Friday's second round, while Thomas More sees its season come to a close at 29-6. CNU will take on the winner of Thursday night's matchup between host Emory and Worcester State on Friday at 7 p.m.
A quartet of Captains posted double-doubles in the win, led by Katie Piper's 21 kills and 16 digs. Ashley Burgess notched 22 assists and 14 digs, Josie Lucernoni tallied 28 digs and 11 assists, and Tylar McGill contributed 13 assists and 11 digs.
