Wesley Senior Tionne Graves-Brown Honored as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Wesley senior Tionne Graves-Brown was honored as the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 12, 2017.

Wesley senior Tionne Graves-Brown was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a 4-0 week and earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Catholic University of America Guetle Invitational. In Wesley's four matches, she notched 48 digs, 46 kills, eight blocks and four double-doubles. For the week, she averaged 3.54 kills per game at a .389% clip and 3.69 digs per game. She also became Wesley's all-time career leader in kills at the tournament, surpassing Lilia Brekke's mark of 769 kills.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Mary Washington is ranked No. 7 in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Sept. 5 National Rankings, while Christopher Newport is receiving votes ... Christopher Newport sophomore Katie Piper earned a spot on the Southwestern University All-Tournament Team after leading CNU to a 2-1 record in Texas. Along with Piper, Josie Lucernoni and Katelyn Newsome earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for their efforts during the weekend. Sophomore Riley Garrison also posted a career-high 11 blocks against No. 3 Southwestern, equaling the fourth-highest single-match total in program history ... Frostburg State senior Madelyn Torres earned all-tournament honors at the Rochester Invitational over the weekend and surpassed 3,000 career assists as the Bobcats won three out of four matches. She handed out a total of 72 assists, posted 31 digs, smacked 11 kills and registered five service aces. On Friday night, the Bobcats rallied for a 3-2 win over Houghton and Torres eclipsed 3,000 assists after finishing the match with 27 ... Marymount junior Emily Abramaitys totaled 10 or more kills in two of the team's four matches last week. Junior Caroline Hanson kicked off the weekend trip to Boston with her fifth-straight triple-double to open the season in a 3-2 win over UMass-Boston ... Salisbury junior Nicole Venturelli tallied her eighth consecutive match with double-digit kills in as many matches so far this season to lead the Sea Gulls. Her 19 kills against Catholic was a season-high as was her 72 total attacks against the Cardinals. Her 106 total kills for the season through eight matches ranks first on the team by more than 50. Venturelli's 3.93 kills per set average is also first on the team and she is the only Gull to tally double-digit kills in every set played so far this season ... Southern Virginia senior Penny Gwynn was named to the All-Tournament team at W&L. She leads the CAC in kills (116) and ranks second in k/s (3.87). Gwynn tied her career-high 22 kills in 3-2 win over Meredith. The Knights only lost to nationally-ranked Eastern and ODAC runner-up W&L last week ... York's Madyson Whitcomb and Alexis Harbold earned All-Tournament team recognition at the F&M Scramble. Whitcomb hit .325 for the week with 34 kills in 15 games.
