Marymount Junior Caroline Hanson Earns CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

Marymount junior Caroline Hanson earned CAC Player of the Week accolades after tallying four triple doubles last week in a 3-1 start for the Saints. Hanson, who finished last season ranked sixth in Division III with four triple doubles, averaged 14.3 kills, 17.3 assists and 13.3 digs for the week while also adding eight total blocks and four service aces. She posted a career-high 15 kills in the season opener against Cabrini before surpassing that with 18 kills against Virginia Wesleyan.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Mary Washington is ranked No. 10 in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Preseason National Rankings, while Christopher Newport is receiving votes ... Katie Piper led CNU to four straight sweeps and earned the Tournament MVP award during the season-opening Captains Classic at the Freeman Center. During the four matches, she led all players at the tournament with 52 kills, including a career-high 17 against Neumann in the opener on September 1. The sophomore also boasted a .325 hitting percentage during the four matches, highlighted by a .412 clip against Meredith on September 1 ... Biamba Tshitenge helped lead Frostburg State to a 3-1 start at the Saint Vincent Tournament and she garnered all-tournament honors in the process ... Tshitenge registered 27 kills and hit .295, with three aces, four digs and 10 total blocks ... Junior Leslie Walters led 10th-ranked Mary Washington to a 4-0 start this weekend, as the Eagles gained wins over 16th-ranked Eastern, Stevens Institute, John Carroll, and Haverford at the Haverford Invitational. Walters had a team high 13 kills in the win over John Carroll, and added 11 in a thrilling five-set win over No. 16 Eastern, in which the Eagles trailed, two sets to none, and 24-20 in the third before rallying for the win. She had 10 kills against Stevens and six against Haverford, in gaining all-tournament team honors with Jenna Yost for the Eagles ... Penn State Harrisburg is off to its best start in school history, thanks in part to the play of transfer junior Kerri Miller. Miller recorded 27 digs during the Lions first four contests at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic Tournament. Penn State Harrisburg defeated conference for St. Mary's 3-0 and then won a thrilling five set battle with Gallaudet on Friday. After falling to McDaniel College, the Lions closed out the tournament by beat Hood College in straight sets. For her efforts in the tournament, Miller was voted to all-tournament team as a libero ... St. Mary's freshman Ellyse Sutliff made a solid debut for St. Mary's, playing in all 14 sets and posting a well-rounded effort. Sutliff was second for the Seahawks in assists, third in kills, and fourth in digs, block assists, total blocks, and points ... Salisbury junior Nicole Venturelli completed a solid weekend for the Sea Gulls, leading the team in kills in all four matches at the annual Sea Gull Classic. Venturelli's .293 hitting percentage ranks second on the team while her 51 total kills ranks first by more than 30 in the young season. For her efforts Venturelli was named to the All-Tournament team ... Tionne Graves-Brown led Wesley to two wins at the Puerto Rico Clasico over Labor Day weekend. Graves-Brown tallied 34 kills, 50 digs and six service aces. She also notched two kill-dig double-doubles at the tournament ... York sophomore Gabby Emeigh led the Spartans to a 4-0 start to the season at the 15th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational in Bethlehem. Emeigh earned All-Tournament team honors for the Spartans as she averaged 4.67 assists, 2.0 digs, and 0.73 service aces per set in 15 sets played during the weekend.
