Six CAC Volleyball Teams Earn AVCA Academic Honors

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 1,125 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2018-2019 season. This number breaks the previous year's total of 977 to set an all-time high.
York's Brady Named Google Cloud Academic All-American

YORK, PA – The York College athletic department is pleased to announce that senior outside hitter Eryn Brady has been named a Google Cloud CoSida Academic All-America. Brady was named as a member of the Third Team as announced by the national office on Wednesday.

Second-seeded Christopher Newport outlasted top-seeded Mary Washington 3-2 in a thrilling CAC Volleyball Championship match on Saturday evening in Fredericksburg, Va. CNU took the five-set match by scores of 26-24, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13, earning the Captains' their second-straight and fifth overall CAC title in the last six seasons.

Christopher Newport and Mary Washington will meet in the CAC volleyball championship for the third year in a row after both posted thrilling five-set come-from-behind victories in the CAC semifinals on Thursday night. The top-seeded Eagles downed fifth-seeded Salisbury 3-2, while the second-seeded Captains topped third-seeded York 3-2.

Last week's action marked the conclusion of the regular season and the opening of CAC postseason play in field hockey, men's soccer, and women's soccer. The CAC volleyball tournament will begin on Tuesday, with the other fall sports continuing postseason competition this week, culminating in the championship games this Saturday, Nov. 3.
Mary Washington Clinches Top Seed in CAC Volleyball Tournament; Top Four Seeds Locked Up

Mary Washington swept St. Mary's 3-0 on Wednesday to lock up the top seed in the upcoming CAC Volleyball Tournament. Christopher Newport, York and Frostburg State also secured mid-week CAC victories in the conference regular season finales for four squads.

This week's weekly awards were collected by Dana Meehling and Sam Keating of York field hockey, Matt Mackenzie of Salisbury men's soccer, Patrick Paolini of St. Mary's men's soccer, Riley Cook of Christopher Newport women's soccer, Kelcie Macomber of Mary Washington women's soccer, and Riley Garrison of Christopher Newport volleyball. Cook, Macomber, and Garrison each earned weekly honors for the second week in a row.

Capital Athletic Conference play is now in full swing for all of the fall conference sports, with this week's weekly honors awarded to Tara Daddio of Salisbury field hockey, Olivia Davis of Christopher Newport field hockey, Justin Carey of Mary Washington men's soccer, Blake Gaetz of Frostburg State men's soccer, Riley Cook of Christopher Newport women's soccer, Kelcie Macomber of Mary Washington women's soccer, and Riley Garrison of Christopher Newport volleyball. Davis, Carey, and Cook are repeat award winners this fall.

Week four of the fall 2018 season witnessed the opening of CAC volleyball action while field hockey and soccer remain in non-conference play as the first month of fall competition wraps up this week. Weekly honors were garned by Lauren Hopkins of Mary Washington field hockey, Meghan Ronan of St. Mary's field hockey, Ethan Hoover of Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer, Ken Kurtz of Mary Washington men's soccer, Lindsey Hendrickson of Mary Washington women's soccer, Haley Eiser of Christopher Newport women's soccer, and Hailey Lohnes of Southern Virginia volleyball.

Week three of the fall 2018 season was marred by the threat of Hurricane Florence, with several CAC institutions closing their campuses and numerous game cancellations and postponements throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. Many contests went on as planned, however, with weekly honors awarded to Lauren Hopkins of Mary Washington field hockey, Domanique Farrace of Salisbury field hockey, Madison Hemler of Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer, Regan Benton of Salisbury women's soccer, Joey Aman of Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer, Trevor Brookhart of Salisbury men's soccer, and Madyson Whitcomb of York volleyball.
