Christopher Newport Outlasts Mary Washington in Thrilling CAC Volleyball Championship Match

Second-seeded Christopher Newport outlasted top-seeded Mary Washington 3-2 in a thrilling CAC Volleyball Championship match on Saturday evening in Fredericksburg, Va. CNU took the five-set match by scores of 26-24, 25-17, 22-25, 21-25, 15-13, earning the Captains' their second-straight and fifth overall CAC title in the last six seasons. 

With the victory, CNU improves to 25-5 on the season and secures the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. NCAA selections will be announced during Monday's NCAA Selection show, which will air live on NCAA.com at 12:30 p.m. CNU will be making its 12th-straight NCAA appearance, while UMW (20-11) must now hope for an at-large bid to the postseason. 

Megan O'Hara led the Captains with 16 kills at a .368% clip while also registering a career-high nine blocks. Riley Garrison tallied seven blocks, Kellyn DeChirico added six rejections, while Katie Piper and Katie Crofford landed 11 kills apiece for the Captains in the win. 

For UMW, Savannah Powers led the way with 18 kills, and Peyton Dunow chipped in with 12.
