Christopher Newport Claims Third Consecutive CAC Volleyball Championship

Top seed Christopher Newport earned the 2019 CAC Volleyball Championship on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over #2 Mary Washington. This is the third straight league title and sixth overall for the Captains.

Mary Washington jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a 25-21 decision in the first set. CNU pulled out the win in a back-and-forth second set by a 25-21 mark. The Captains would go on to earn a decisive 25-17 third set victory before putting the match away in the fourth, 25-21.

The Captains were led by Katie Piper who registered a team-high 14 kills, while Katie Crofford collected 11 kills and 17 digs in the win. CNU recorded a .218 hitting percentage while holding UMW to .168 in the contest. The Eagles were paced by Savannah Powers and her game-high 19 kills.
