Mary Washington's Dunow, Christopher Newport's Wright Earn CAC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2019 women's volleyball season. Mary Washington senior outside hitter/right side Peyton Dunow earned CAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, while Christopher Newport sophomore middle blocker Mackenzie Wright claimed CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Peyton Dunow - Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior outside hitter/right side Peyton Dunow led the Eagles to a pair of wins in as many contests this week, hitting .489 on the week with 25 kills and just four attack errors in 43 chances. On Wednesday against SVU, she registered 13 kills against one error in 17 attempts, with three assists, two digs, and one block assist for 16.5 points. On Saturday against Lynchburg, Dunow posted 12 kills against three errors in 26 attempts, with three assists, 12 digs, and one block assist.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mackenzie Wright - Christopher Newport

Sophomore middle blocker Mackenzie Wright helped carry Christopher Newport to a 3-0 week as she tallied 14 blocks (1.40/set) to go with 17 kills (1.70/set) with a .297 hitting percentage. Against St. Mary's on Wednesday she posted two blocks and five kills. She followed with a six-block (two solo), six-kill performance vs. York on Friday. She finished off the week on Saturday against #4 regionally ranked Washington and Lee by contributing another six blocks (three solo) and six kills. For the season, she ranks fifth in the CAC in blocks per set and first in conference play.

LEAGUE NOTES

Sammy Carroll helped carry Christopher Newport to a 3-0 week as she tallied 95 assists (9.50/set) to go with 18 digs, eight aces, seven kills, and one block. Against St. Mary's on Wednesday, she posted a double-double with 29 assists, 11 digs, and three aces. She followed with 27 assists, four digs, three kills, and two aces vs. York on Friday. She finished off the week on Saturday against #4 regionally ranked Washington and Lee by contributing 39 assists, four kills, three aces, three digs, and one block. For the season, she ranks first overall and in conference play in the CAC in total assists and assists per set...Salisbury freshman Jenna Feinauer started both matches for the Sea Gulls last week, combining for 14 kills with a kill percentage of .481. The middle blocker also combined for six blocks to help lead her team to back-to-back sweeps of conference opponents York and Southern Virginia. Feinauer currently leads the CAC with 0.99 blocks per set...Salisbury senior Hailey Dougherty helped lead her team to two sweeps of conference opponents York and Southern Virginia last week. The defensive specialist started all six sets, combining for 35 digs to remain atop the conference in both total digs (492) and digs per set (5.35)....Kendal Hall turned in a great week defensively as Mary Washington swept Southern Virginia and Lynchburg. She had five assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 win over the Knights, and added two assists, two aces, and 17 digs in a 3-1 win over Lynchburg on senior day.
