York and Christopher Newport Lead All-CAC Women's Cross Country Team with Six Honorees Each; CNU's Schmitt Earns Athlete of the Year Award

YORK, Pa. - CAC-champion York and runner-up Christopher Newport each landed six runners on the 2016 All-CAC Women's Cross Country team to headline the honorees around the conference. The Captains and Spartans also claimed the major individual awards, as CNU senior Emmie Schmitt earned Athlete of the Year, freshman teammate Jessica Lee secured Rookie of the Year, and York head coach Stephen LoBianco was named Coach of the Year.

LoBianco guided York to its first-ever CAC Championship last Saturday in Hershey, Pa. The Spartans placed four runners in the top seven, totaling 31 points to narrowly defeat CNU by two points, ending the Captains three-year streak atop the conference. The Coach of the Year honor is the first of LoBianco's career, and marks the first time a York head coach has earned the award in women's cross country.

CNU's Schmitt and Lee grabbed the other major individual awards. Schmitt edged Lee by five seconds en route to the individual title. Despite winning the team title from 2013-15, Schmitt is the first CNU runner to win Athlete of the Year since the Captains joined the conference in 2013. Lee, meanwhile, joins Briana Stewart (2013) and Hannah Bullen (2014) as CNU Rookies of the Year.

York secured the team title on the strength of a all-around team effort, led by All-CAC first-team placings from senior Kathleen Cannon, sophomore Alayna DeBruin, sophomore Jess Delviscio, and freshman Stephanie Savage. Cannon (2nd in '15, 2nd in '13) placed third overall to claim her third career all-conference honor, Delviscio (1st in '15, ROY in '15) earned her second-straight first-team honor, while DeBruin and Savage were All-CAC award winners for the first time.

Along with Schmitt and Lee at the top, CNU senior Logan Harrington also grabbed first-team accolades. Schmitt (2nd in '15, 2nd in '14, 1st in '13) earned all-conference recognition each year of her career, while Harrington (1st in '15, 1st in '14) is a three-time all-star.

A trio of CNU runners landed on the second team - senior Briana Stewart, sophomore Abigail May, and freshman Gena Lewis. Stewart (1st in '15, 1st in '14, 1st & ROY in '13) captured her fourth consecutive All-CAC honor, while May (1st in '15) was repeat award winner.

Third-place Salisbury had four runners in the top-16, led by junior Alison Schwartz in fourth place, earning her first-team accolades. Sophomore Jamie Farley was a repeat second-teamer while while freshman Abby Potterand sophomore Jill Ciritella also landed on the second team for the Sea Gulls.
