Gallaudet University SAAC Contributes To Three Community Service Projects

The Gallaudet University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) contributed to three community service projects this year, most recently a "Polar Bear Plunge" that raised $2.5 million for Special Olympics.

On Jan. 24th, several GU athletic teams, primarily women's soccer, participated with 11,000  other volunteers in the Polar Bear Plunge in the Chesapeake Bay.  The event raised 2.5 million dollars for Special Olympics. More information may be obtained on the http://www.plungemd.com/index.php website.

The GU SAAC was also involved with two programs in November 2008, including a canned food drive two weeks before Thanksgiving break to donate to deaf families and a Dig Pink vollyeball game vs. Salisbury University.

The canned food drive collected three large boxes of food for distribution, and the Dig Pink event raised approximately $200 dollars for breast cancer that night.
