INTRODUCING ... York Senior Baseball Third Baseman Justin Cohen

York senior Justin Cohen, a converted catcher who is in his third year as a starter at third base for the Spartans, is a die-hard Baltimore Orioles fan and a business leader with his eye on the future.  INTRODUCING … Justin Cohen.

Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play?   I have been playing baseball since I was four, which was the earliest to start t-ball.

What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline?   My major is finance, and I’ve learned that decisions are meant to be for the long term – buy and hold – and that you have to have confidence in your business decisions.

What is your favorite spot on campus?   My favorite place is the Grumbacher Center.  To be able to work out and practice in the same building is huge!

Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit?  My favorite place is Camden Yards in Baltimore.  The Orioles stadium is an awesome place and a great experience.

Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)?  I’ve participated in YCP SAAC when we organized charity events.

Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career.  My most memorable experience was a three-homer series against Wesley after I was in a batting slump.

Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life?  The most influential person has been CT Stanley, a senior first baseman at York when I was a sophomore.  He taught me a lot about being a leader and a good person.

What is the most important societal issue facing college students?   The most important issue is money.  The feeling of four years of hard work preparing to make it in the real world, then coming out of school with a cloud of dust over your head (is concerning).

If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it?  I would try to stop animal abuse.  I love animals and I feel they deserve the same love and care that people get.

What is your favorite form of entertainment?  I just like to hang out with my friends and teammates, laughing and making memories.

What is your favorite source of information?   My source of information is the TV – it’s the easiest and most enjoyable.

If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be?  I would tell them to live for the future.  Make long-term goals and work every day to achieve long-term success.

Outside of the CAC, who or what is your favorite sports person or team?   I am a huge Orioles fan and have a lot of respect for Manny Machado – how he changed positions and has excelled!

Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with?   I’d like to have dinner with the “Iron Man” himself – Cal Ripken, who is a great genuine guy and Jackie Robinson because he changed baseball.  The third would be God – enough said!
