Brinsfield garners NCBWA Rookie of the Week honors

DALLAS – Adding one more accolade to his collection from last week's masterpiece, right-handed pitcher Aidan Brinsfield of the fifth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team was recognized as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Rookie of the Week for the week of Apr. 15-21, as revealed on Wednesday afternoon.

Brinsfield, a freshman from Salisbury's Parkside High School, spun the Sea Gulls' first complete-game shutout in five years to beat Neumann on Tuesday, Apr. 16, an eight-inning, two-hit, 10-strikeout clinic to help SU win 10-0. Brinsfield faced just three over the minimum in his longest and best start to-date.

Through nine appearances (eight starts) in his rookie campaign, Brinsfield sports a 4-0 record with a 3.37 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 12 walks, and 37 strikeouts over a team-leading 42.2 innings. He ranks fifth in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) in punchouts, as well as sixth in both ERA and wins.

Brinsfield's NCBWA nod gives him an awards hat trick for the week. On Monday he took home C2C Pitcher of the Week and was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week earlier on Wednesday.

Brinsfield and the Sea Gulls begin the penultimate week of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon against St. Mary's (Md.). First pitch from Donnie Williams Stadium is 3 p.m.
