Impressive Road Week Leads York's Wagner to CAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2019 men's basketball season. York senior guard Jared Wagner earned CAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jared Wagner - York (Pa.)

York senior guard Jared Wagner led the Spartans to a pair of wins for the week including a road win over previously unbeaten Gwynedd Mercy. Wagner began the week with a double-double with 21 points and 12 assists in the 21-point win over Gwyendd Mercy. Wagner weas 6-for-10 from the floor, 2-for-4 from three and 7-for-7 at the stripe. He also had five rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. In Sunday's win over Franklin & Marshall, Wagner had his second double-double of the week with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He was 4-for-6 from the floor and 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Wagner added six assists, two steals and a blocked shot. For the week, Wagner averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game as he shot 62.5% from the field, 40% from three and 93.3% from the free throw line. He also had six steals and a pair of blocked shots. For the year, Wagner is averaging 14.9 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game. He is shooting 58.3% from the floor and 77.8% from the line. He is third in the CAC in field goal percentage, first in assists per game, first in steals per game, and tied for fourth in points per game.

LEAGUE NOTES

Christopher Newport junior guard Brandon Edmond posted a career-high 16 points to lead the Captains to a 90-62 triumph over Texas-Dallas. He also recorded all eight of his points in the second half on Sunday as the Captains comeback fell short in a 61-58 loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Captains are now 6-2 and ranked 11th in the country, and had a six-game winning streak snapped on Sunday by Stevens Point...Salisbury junior guard Gary Briddell scored double-digit points in all three games this week for a combined 41 points. On Tuesday Briddell notched 10 points against Virginia Wesleyan to start off his double-digit streak. After accounting for nine of Salisbury's first 18 points against Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, Briddell nearly doubled his points with 17 total. On Sunday, Briddell tallied a team-high of 14 points against Brockport. He totaled 10 rebounds, stole the ball nine times and notched three assists in the three games...Southern Virginia senior guard Jamier Cross recorded his first double-double of the season in the Knights lone game of the week. The senior shot 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from the field. He recorded 13 points, ten rebounds, and five assists and a pair of steals against the generals.
