No. 1 UMW Men's Soccer's Berg, Rogers, Castillo Named All-Americans By United Soccer Coaches

For the second consecutive season, the No. 1 University of Mary Washington men's soccer program saw three members named All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches in a release on Thursday afternoon. Senior keeper Freddy Rogers, senior midfielder Nelsar Castillo, and senior forward Carter Berg, were all named to the All-American First Team.

Rogers led the No. 1 ranked Eagles in net for the entire season, recording a 19-2-2 record, which is the second most single season wins in program history. Too, Rogers was in net for 16 consecutive games where UMW didn't suffer a loss, which set a new program record this season. Rogers logged over 2,000 minutes in net this season that included 63 total saves and a 0.84 goals-against-average mark and nine shutouts. Rogers was a Third Team All-Region selection last season and earned his first All-American award this season.

Berg picked up his second All-America honor after becoming just the fifth member of the Eagles' 100-point club this past season. In his career, Berg netted 40 goals and 30 assists, 14 scores came this past season -- a career-high -- as did nine of his assists. The Reston, Va. native recorded five braces this past season against NC Wesleyan (twice), Christopher Newport (twice), and Bethany. He scored the game-winning golden goal in overtime to clinch the C2C Championship -- the Eagles' third straight -- for UMW. Too, he had a game-winning pass against Ohio Wesleyan in the Round of 32 on Santana's game-winning goal in the 89th minute.

Castillo netted a career-high five goals this past season, which included four assists. The Falls Church, Va. native recorded a brace against Mount Union in a 3-1 victory in Richmond, Va. on Sept. 13. Tuesday marked Castillo's first All-Region honor and Thursday marked his first All-American honor.

This year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony on Saturday, January 11, 2025 in Chicago, Ill., in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
