NEWVILLE, Pa. -- Representing Christopher Newport at the NCAA Championships,
Daniel Ferrante punctuated the cross country season on Saturday morning as the fourth-year standout wrapped up the title competition at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania.
During the race, Ferrante completed the 8k in 26:09.0. That shaved 24 seconds off his clocking from last year's national meet and marked the fastest time by a Captain at the NCAA Championships since 2017.
With that mark, Ferrante finished 170th overall in a field featuring the top cross country runners in the NCAA. That was a 17-spot improvement from last year's race in which he placed 187th overall.
Saturday's performance wrapped up an award-winning senior season for the Sterling, Virginia native. Previously, he earned All-Region and first-team All-Conference accolades for his work during the year. He placed fourth at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships before coming in 18th at the NCAA South Regionals earlier this month.
In his career, Ferrante is now a two-time national qualifier and three-time All-Conference and All-Region performer. His 8k PR of 24:32.2 also ranks fifth on Christopher Newport's all-time charts.
