INTRODUCING ... Wesley Senior Women's Basketball And Softball Standout Michele Mules
This week's INTRODUCING ... student-athlete is Wesley College senior Michele Mules, a three-year starter in two sports (basketball and softball) for the Wolverines.
What is your background in the sport you play? I have been playing basketball since I was 5 years old. I had phenomenal coaches through rinks and they made my experience so much fun and my love for the game started then.
What is your favorite spot on campus? My favorite place on campus is in the Club Simpson dining area listening to my ipod. I love that spot because I love to people watch and become lost in the music and my thoughts.
Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in (on campus or off campus)? I am a senior captain on the softball team, member of Legal Society, Lamda Iota Tau and Alpha Chi honor societies, and I tutor English and Law.
What is the most important societal issue facing college students? The most important issue facing college students is the beginning of their career after graduation because of the poor economy. Many students graduate and then go on to get their masters and PHD's because getting a job within their field is nearly impossible, which increases debt, thus holding the economy stagnant.
What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline? In my Law Major I have learned that dedication and sacrifice are two important characteristics needed to succeed in every aspect of life, whether it be in sports, in my career, or in my relationships. In my English Major I have learned that the best knowledge is gained from asking questions about what you read and study.
Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life? The most influential person in my life, outside my family, is my 10th grade English teacher, Mrs. Kelley. She taught me that it is okay to love something that you have to work hard at doing because the hard work makes the love greater. She also pushed me to my potential and made me set new goals and aim higher for my future.
If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be? Chase your dreams because the struggle is worth the triumph at the end.
What is your favorite form of entertainment? My favorite form of entertainment are books, because reading is relaxing and captivating. I am intrigued about how easy it is for the reader to become one of the characters in the story. Becoming lost in a good book is a wonderful vacation from reality.
Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team? My favorite sports person is Reggie Bush because rushing for 500 yards in a college football game is phenomenal. Also, he is a man with a reputable character. He had to overcome the adversity of not starting initially when he came to the league and then was plagued by injury, which reflects a lot of my career at Wesley.
Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with? I'd like to have dinner with Michael Jordan, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ellen Degeneres. Michael Jordan because he is the greatest player of all time who has faced adversity and has risen above it to become great. F. Scott Fitzgerald because he is my all time favorite author. Ellen Degeneres because she is the funniest person in the world. She is so much fun and really enjoys life, I really feel like I could learn how to relax and enjoy life like her.
