CNU's Kaitlyn Hasty Named CAC Softball Player & Rookie of the Year; 2019 All-CAC Teams Announced
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Christopher Newport received two major awards and placed a conference-leading seven players on the 2019 All-CAC Softball First Team to headline this year's all-star squad. CNU freshman Kaitlyn Hasty swept Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, while Mary Washington head coach Dee Conway was honored as Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to the No. 1 seed.
Hasty has tied the CNU school record for home runs in a season this year with 17. She is presently tied for the lead nationally in home runs, is third in slugging percentage (.981), and is fourth in the country in runs batted in with 56. She was selected first team All-Conference at third base, and led the CAC this year in all three categories.
Hasty becomes the second CAC softball student-athlete to earn both Player & Rookie of the Year accolades - the first being Salisbury's Kelly Waskewicz who achieved the feat back in 2007.
Dee Conway gained CAC Coach of the Year honors for the seventh time in leading UMW to a 9-3 regular season conference mark, and to the CAC championship series this week. The 32nd year head coach recorded her 549th career victory in the Eagles' advancement to this weekend's championship.
