Mace named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week

SALISBURY, Md. – The newly-minted top-ranked Salisbury University softball team saw its new Home Run Queen, Abby Mace, named this week's Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Player of the week, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

Mace, a graduate student from Smyrna, Del., was nearly unretirable in the box this weekend, batting a crisp .727 (8-for-11) across a pair of twin bills against Ursinus and York (Pa.). Mace drove in eight runs and scored 10 of her own across the four contests.

Mace became the program's all-time home run leader in the second inning of game two against Ursinus, walloping a letter-high pitch to left center for her 53rd career blast. She accumulated two more long balls over the weekend, including another in the same game as her record-setting swing, while adding three doubles and drawing four walks.

The graduate slugger leads the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) and ranks third in the nation with 10 homers in 2024, nearly averaging a round trip every other game (0.43) to rank fourth in Division III. She also leads the nation in runs per game (1.78) and slugging percentage (1.179).

The Sea Gulls return to the diamond for Senior Day on Saturday, April 20 with a twin bill against C2C foe Mary Washington. Mace will join Lauren Meyers, Nicole Ortega, Natalie Paoli, and Meghan Reed in being honored before the first game, set for a 1:30 p.m. start at Margie Knight Stadium.
Salisbury University is a proud member of NCAA Division III with primary membership in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, along with the New Jersey Athletic Conference for football and men's and women's swimming, and the Coastal Lacrosse Conference for men's lacrosse.
