Feeling Super: No. 11 Softball walks-off Pfeiffer for Regional title

SALISBURY, Md. - For the fourth straight year, the 11th-ranked Salisbury University softball program defended its home turf to win a regional championship, topping the 19th-ranked Pfeiffer Uuniversity, 5-4, in the finale of the Salisbury Regional of the 2024 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.

The Falcons broke the scoring open in the top of the third before the Sea Gulls answered quickly with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Jillian Dawson started the rally with a lead-off triple down the right field line and would come around to tie the game off a throwing error from the Pfeiffer catcher. Carrie Jacoby followed that up with a single and would be pinch-run for by Taylor Scott. Scott would come around to score on a wild pitch, giving the Sea Gulls the lead.

A three-run home run from the Falcons jolted them into a 4-2 lead, which proved to be their last runs of the ball game. SU did not wait long to tie things up, posting two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The rally was once again started by Dawson and Jacoby, who both earned singles. With the bases loaded, Lexie Delcollo earned an RBI off a walk to bring the deficit to just one run. Sydney Adolfson would then ground out but earn an RBI and tie the game.

Adolfson, who came into pitch for Justyce Richard in the fourth inning, only allowed one hit over the next two innings for the Falcons, giving her offense the chance to walk it off.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Morgan Moxley singled to left field and then stole second to get into scoring position for Sam Flowers at the plate. With two strikes, Flowers slapped a single over the Falcons' shortstop, scoring Moxley and sending the Sea Gulls onto the Super Regionals.

Game Notes
- Adolfson earned the win in the circle, which was her 21st of the season.
- Dawson finished with three hits and a run.
- Along with the winner, Flowers also posted a three-hit game.
- Jacoby and Ellen Stockman posted two-hit games.
