All-American Markman finishes sixth in indoor triple jump

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Rashawn Markman of the Salisbury University track and field teams has become an All-American for the second time in his career, finishing sixth in the men's triple jump at the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Markman, a junior from Waldwick, N.J., used his second of six scheduled jumps to register a distance of 14.72 meters (48-3.5), breaking his own school record set last month at the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Indoor Championships by three-quarters of an inch. The tally easily placed Markman in the event's top eight to qualify for the All-America First Team.

Markman becomes just the 15th multiple All-American in Sea Gull track and field history and the first since Eric Halton earned the last of his four All-America laurels in 2017. Markman finished seventh in the triple jump at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships and narrowly missed another All-America nod by taking 10th in the outdoor triple jump in 2023.

The sixth-place finish at nationals caps a spectacular indoor season for Markman, who won a pair of C2C gold medals in the triple jump and long jump last month and was named Mid-Atlantic All-Region in the two events earlier this week.

Markman will join his Sea Gull teammates outdoors this week with the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. beginning on Thursday.
