FULL RESULTS

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – During the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship finals, Eric Anderson placed second overall in the Men's Mile event. Anderson finished with a time of 4:05.57, three seconds faster than his time in preliminaries less than two seconds behind Pomona-Pitzer's Bennett Booth-Genthe in first. Anderson said after the race, "It was cool to have another west coast guy in the race […] I knew he was a pre-race favorite so I paid attention to where he was in the race. With 400 meters to go, I knew if I was going to make a move it has to be now!"

With today's time, Anderson once again achieved a new personal best in the Men's mile, breaking previous records from yesterday's performance. Anderson single-handedly put UC Santa Cruz in 27th place out of over 80 schools and was additionally awarded First Team All-American status. He is the second Banana Slug to earn All-American at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships after Shea Wissler placed seventh last year in the Heptathlon.

"I couldn't be prouder of Eric," said head coach David Klech. "He ran an unbelievable race last weekend in Iowa and knew he was in store for something special at Nationals. This is only our third Indoor season at UC Santa Cruz, and it's been a great experience that we've had an NCAA Qualifier each season.
Eric really shows what it means to be bought in and work hard, and I'm super proud of his effort day in and day out! The whole country now knows who Eric Anderson is, and believe me, there a whole lot more to come."

When asked about the weekend overall, Anderson said, "It was an amazing opportunity to get to compete. […] My goal for the weekend was to make it to finals and see what happens. I was pretty nervous for the final today but excited and confident I could do something well."
