CNU Claims C2C Title In Defensive Showdown

Christopher Newport earned the 2023 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Field Hockey Championship with a 2-0 victory over Salisbury on Saturday in Newport News, Virginia.  CNU (17-0) won its second C2C title (2017).

The Captains and Sea Gulls defensive efforts forced a 0-0 draw until the end of the third quarter. 

CNU’s Alexis Morales scored the first goal at the 44:59 mark with the assist from Katie Abendschoen.

The Captains Abby Asuncion added another goal less than three minutes later (47:25).  Courtney Hughlett had the assist.

Lily Kerr made three saves to earn the shutout for CNU, which held a 13-8 advantage in shots.
