Mary Washington Senior Jono Haught and Christopher Newport Sophomore Caleb Myers Named CAC Baseball Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Jono Haught and Christopher Newport sophomore Caleb Myers were selected as the CAC Baseball Players of the Week for Feb. 17, 2015.

Mary Washington senior Jono Haught was named the CAC Player of the Week after going 5-for-6 (.800) at the plate with seven RBIs in the Eagles' season-opening doubleheader sweep over Plattsburgh State. Haught hit a triple and four singles, walked twice and scored three times in a pair of convincing wins.

Christopher Newport sophomore Caleb Myers was honored as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after posting a 1-0 record and a save in four no-hit innings of relief for the Captains over the opening two weeks of the season. Throughout his four innings of work, Myers allowed just one baserunner while striking out a pair. He earned his first save with a perfect inning against against McMurry in the Methodist Diamond Invitational, and picked up the win in 2.0 innings of relief against Eastern Mennonite.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Seven CAC teams have opened their 2015 campaigns, with Frostburg State, Mary Washington and Salisbury starting out 2-0 ... Salisbury is ranked sixth in the preseason rankings by both D3baseball.com and Collegiate Baseball ... Christopher Newport saw three of its first seven games on the schedule postponed due to weather conditions. The Captains have opened with a 3-1 mark including wins over Lynchburg, McMurry and Eastern Mennonite. Connor Henderson opened the season with a four-game hitting streak for the Captains, including a perfect 4-for-4 performance against McMurry in the Methodist Diamond Invitational ... Frostburg State senior Nick Walker went 4-for-5 with four hits, two doubles, three RBI, four runs and three stolen bases as the Bobcats opened the 2015 season with a sweep of Roanoke ... Ryan Van Assche led Mary Washington to a season opening win over Plattsburgh State, tossing five no-hit innings in his first start. The junior allowed no hits and three walks with no runs allowed while striking out five as the Eagles won, 11-2.
