FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State seniors Evan Colon and Greg Schneider swept the CAC baseball weekly awards for Feb. 26, 2018.  

Player of the Week

Frostburg State senior Evan Colon was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .478 (11-for-23) in a 6-1 start for the Bobcats, tallying three home runs, 13 RBIs and seven runs scored. Colon posted at least two hits in five of the Bobcats' seven games, and owns an on-base percentage of .567% while slugging 1.043%. He capped the opening set of games with two home runs and three RBIs in a 10-1 win over New Rochelle.

Frostburg State senior Greg Schneider secured CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after posting a 2-0 record with an incredible 30 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched. Schneider opened the year with 15 strikeouts in just 6.0 innings of work in a 6-1 win over Penn State Abington. At one point, he fanned 10-straight batters from the first through fifth innings. This past Saturday, Schneider fanned another 15 batters in a 13-0 shutout of Rutgers-Newark. In the win over the Scarlet Raiders, Schneider surrendered just two hits and struckout at least two batters in all seven innings, including three in the sixth. He has allowed just one earned run for an ERA of 0.69 and four hits through his 13.0 innings pitched.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury is ranked No. 18 in the D3baseball.com Preseason National Rankings & No. 20 in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) / Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll, while Christopher Newport is receiving votes from the ABCA ... CNU's Seth Woodard opened the season with a 10-game hitting streak, leading the team in average, RBI, OBP, walks, and doubles. He has six extra-base hits in the last six games. Woodard has led a potent Captains offense that is averaging 8.4 runs so far this season. Thomas Packert opened the season with 14.2 straight innings without an earned run for CNU, allowing just three hits in the same stretch. He has started four games and picked up two wins ... Mary Washington junior Joe Thompson has posted a 0.00 ERA in 5.1 innings for the Eagles, gaining wins against New Rochelle and Montclair State. He allowed one hit in 3.1 innings with six strikeouts against New Rochelle, and then struck out two in two innings as UMW downed Motclair State, 3-1, on Sunday. For the week he allowed three hits, with eight strikeouts and no walks. Kevin France has led the UMW offense through six games, as the Eagles are off to a 3-3 start. France has hit .389 (7-18), with three doubles, four RBI, and five runs scored ... Marymount junior Cal Berman hit .357 and slugged .643 with two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and six runs scored in a 2-2 start for the Saints. Senior pitcher Dylan Gerdts fanned seven batters in 7.0 innings in a no-decision against Muhlenberg. Gerdts allowed just three hits and one run ... Penn State Harrisburg's Chase Smith hit .529 in his first four college games, going 9-for-17 with two home runs and five RBIs in a 2-2 start for the Lions ... Holden Marshall went 2-for-3, including an RBI double, at the plate in St. Mary's lone game of the week. Will Spanoghe threw 4.2 innings of relief with five strikeouts against one walk in his first outing as a Seahawk ... Salisbury's Justin Meekins hit 4-for-11 with two RBIs and four runs scored in the Sea Gulls' season-opening twinbill vs. top-ranked SUNY Cortland. Austin Heenan started the opener for the Sea Gulls, striking out eight batters through five innings and giving up three earned runs in the no-decision ... Southern Virginia senior Ryan Saunders leads the team with a .400 average and five RBIs and three stolen bases. Saunders has been on base in five of six games and has 10 hits ... Wesley's Chris Seibert notched a .571 batting average (8-for-14) with a home run, four runs batted in and three doubles in a 1-2 start for the Wolverines.
