Academic success is nothing new for Salisbury University field hockey midfielder Kandice Hancock; her career as a Sea Gull has been peppered with accolades both on the field and in the classroom. On Friday, just one day after crossing the stage to receive her diploma, the Westover, Md., native added one more award to her list – a spot on the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District second team.

Her undergraduate career at Salisbury University may be coming to a close tomorrow, but senior Liz Tollett has more than just a college degree to celebrate. The Maryland Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (MACDA) recently released its three annual post-graduate scholarship award winners, and Tollett was one of the recipients.

After coaching both field hockey and women's lacrosse at the University of Mary Washington for the past 21 years, Dana Hall will step down as field hockey coach effective immediately to focus solely on the women's lacrosse program, according to UMW Director of Athletics Dr. Edward Hegmann. UMW will begin a search immediately for a new field hockey head coach.

The NCAA Division III Field Hockey quarterfinal game between Salisbury University and Messiah College was many things – a rematch of the 2009 National Championship game, a longstanding rivalry between two powerhouse programs, an incredible opportunity for both teams to showcase their offensive and defensive prowess. Though the contest was all of these, and more, it did not tip in favor of the seventh-ranked Sea Gulls as the top-ranked Falcons earned a 4-1 victory to advance to the semifinal round of the tournament.

With the victory, Salisbury moves on to the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey tournament.
