FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York senior Autumn Mallory and Christopher Newport senior Stephanie McKinney were selected as the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Oct. 2, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

York senior Autumn Mallory garnered CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring four goals, including both game-winners, in a 2-0 week for the Spartans. Mallory opened the week with a hat trick in the first half of York's 3-1 win at Johns Hopkins. She followed that up with one goal in the Spartans' 5-1 victory in the CAC opener against Wesley. She scored her four goals on just seven shots, recording a shooting percentage of .571%. For the year, Mallory leads the CAC in goals (10) and points (21). 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Stephanie McKinney was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high seven saves in the Captains' 1-0 victory over No. 3 Salisbury on Saturday. McKinney's seven saves included a game-changing stop on a penalty stroke in the second half. After the Captains secured an early lead against the Sea Gulls, McKinney made three stops in the first half before adding four more saves in the second stanza, including one in the final three minutes to seal the victory.

In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Sept. 26 Rankings, Salisbury is ranked No. 3, Christopher Newport is No. 15, Mary Washington is No. 17, and York is receiving votes ... CNU's 1-0 victory over No. 3 Salisbury was the highest-ranked opponent ever defeated by the Captains. Additionally, the game marked the first time Salisbury suffered a shutout loss in a regular season CAC game since former league member Catholic blanked the Sea Gulls, 1-0, on October 4, 2006 ... Mary Washington senior Allegra Massey-Elim scored two goals in each of UMW's wins this week, including two game winners. She caged two goals as the Eagles disposed of Randolph-Macon, 8-0, on Thursday, and then scored two more in a 3-0 win at Shenandoah on Saturday. She has six goals and two assists on the season ... In a 2-1 week, Mollie Belson led St. Mary's with four points on a goal and two assists. Belson tallied a career- and season-best three points in the CAC-opening win at Frostburg State. Alyssa Thompson posted a 2.00 GAA and .769 save percentage at goalkeeper for the Seahawks. Thompson started with six saves in a 4-3 road win over Virginia Wesleyan before collecting a career-best 12 stops in a CAC-opening win at Frostburg State ... Salisbury senior Nicole Lindner attempted a team-high three shots in Salisbury's loss at Christopher Newport. Senior goalkeeper Tressie Windsor notched five saves in the contest ... Wesley senior Emily Wagner recorded four defensive saves in Wesley's week. She tallied three against Rowan and picked up another save against York. Wagner leads the CAC in defensive saves (6) ... York's Jennifer Morrissette powered a defense that allowed one goal in each of their two games for the week. In the win at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday, the Spartan defense allowed just four shots on goal in the 3-1 win. In the CAC opening win over Wesley, the Spartan defense surrendered just two shots on goal and five total shots.
