Wesley Senior Tyler Spielberger and York Junior Tyler Newton Selected as CAC Men's Co-Golfers of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York junior Tyler Newton and Wesley senior Tyler Spielberger were selected as the CAC Men's Co-Golfers of the Week for Oct. 3, 2017 after both capturing individual titles over the past two weeks.

York junior Tyler Newton was selected as the CAC Men's Co-Golfer of the Week after winning the individual title at the Montgomery Cup in Downingtown, Pa. Newton fired a two-round total of 145 with anopening round even-par 72 and a one-over-par 73 in the second round on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans finished second as a team, tying a school record with a first round score of 292. The Green and White finished with a score of 600, four strokes back of team champion F&M.

Wesley senior Tyler Spielberger garnered CAC Men's Co-Golfer of the Week honors after winning the Ursinus Fall Invitational with an even-par 71. Spielberger tied for first place with Shane Nocito of Penn State Abington, but took home the individual trophy following a scorecard tiebreaker. It was Wesley's first individual title since Robert Ehrhardt won the Apprentice Glenn Heath Invitational in 2012.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport junior Kurt Funkhouser wrapped up a strong individual showing to lead the way for the Captains at the Tournament Town Preview, an NCAA Division III championship preview event. Funkhouser (+8) tied for 28th in the individual standings after signing for an Even Par round of 72 in the third round. He finished the 54-hole tourney with a 224 (77-75-72), improving in each round played.
