Salisbury Freshman Eric Robichaud Named CAC Men's Swimming Athlete Of The Week

Salisbury freshman ERIC ROBICHAUD (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after both sprint freestyle races and contributing to the meet-opening victory that helped the Sea Gulls topple Catholic University in the team’s final outing of the dual meet season. Robichaud was part of the 400 medley relay team that gave SU the early lead. Robichaud needed to outstretch sophomore teammate Stephen Eyler by just .14 seconds to complete the sweep of the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Mary Washington junior STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Home Schooled) and freshman NICK ECKHOFF (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Co-Athletes of the Week after each won three events and set three pool records as the Eagles registered a non-conference win at Gettysburg Saturday. Clendenin took first in the 1000 freestyle (10:19.45), the 200 IM (1:58.53) and was a member of the 400 freestyle relay while Eckhoff won the 200 backstroke (1:57.91) and the 100 backstroke (54.86) and was member of the 400 free relay.

Mary Washington freshman NICK ECKHOFF (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after winning four events over the weekend and swimming exhibition in two other events. Eckhoff won the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and contributed to the 400 medley relay team in Saturday’s CAC win over St. Mary’s. He also took the top spot in the 100 backstroke in Friday’s victory over Marymount as the Eagles completed another undefeated dual meet season vs. CAC competition.

York junior A.J. BEAN (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after establishing a pool record in the 200 backstroke during a pre-Christmas break victory over Elizabethtown. Bean touched the wall in 2:01.08, topping the mark set in 2007 by Steve Fulcher. The next day, Bean captured top honors in the 100 backstroke and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team as the Spartans downed both Gallaudet and Penn State-Altoona.

York sophomore JACK GOTTSCHALK (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after leading the Spartans to dual meet wins over Salisbury and Goucher Friday. Gottschalk captured the 1,000 freestyle, his second victory in as many tries this season, turning in a 10:46.50 to outpace the field by just over 12 seconds. He then swam the second leg on the school-record breaking 200 free relay team that finished with a time of 1:29.41.

Mary Washington junior STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Home schooled) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after registering two NCAA “B” cut times, both the fastest in the CAC this season, and helping the Eagles to sixth place in the Maryland Terrapin Cup meet over the weekend. UMW was the only NCAA Division III team in the meet, but Clendenin placed third in the 400 IM (4:03.67) and sixth in the 200 IM (1:55.02), both provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III championships. He also finished among the top 20 competitors in the 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and competed on the 400 medley, 200 medley and 800 freestlye relay teams.

St. Mary’s freshman BILLY DeBOISSIERE (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after winning three events - the 1,000 freestyle (10:32.57), 500 freestyle (5:04.85) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.08) in a dual meet at Washington (Md.) College. He now owns a 3-0 mark in both the 1000 free and 500 free while boasting a 4-0 mark in the 100 breast. DeBoissiere currently owns the top time in the CAC in the 1000 free as well as the top times in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

Mary Washington senior JUSTIN ANDERSON (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after winning two individual events, contributing to two victorious relay teams and posting three pool records in a CAC tri-meet with York and Hood. Anderson touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (49.17) and 200 freestyle (1:48.77), then swam legs of the first-place 200 medley relay (1:39.71) and 400 freestyle relay (3:18.16) teams that both set pool records. Anderson was also credited with the 100 freestyle pool record (48.95) as the leadoff leg of the 400 freestyle relay team.

St. Mary’s freshman BILLY DeBOISSIERE (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week after winning six gold medals in his first two collegiate meets. He helped SMC snap a 13-meet losing streak vs. Catholic by touching the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.11), 500 freestyle (5:05.71) and lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.27). The next day, the Seahawks snapped a seven-meet slide vs. Marymount as he captured top honors again in the 200 (1:52.09) and 500 freestyles (5:28.54), then switched to lead a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.79) vs. the Saints.

Mary Washington junior All-American STEPHEN CLENDENIN (Ashburn, Va./Homeschooled) was selected the CAC Men’s Swimming Athlete of the Week. Clendenin, who was the Oct. 20 Division III national Swimmer of the Week by collegeswimming.com, won the 200 butterfly (1:58.29) and 200 IM (1:59.98) as UMW topped Washington & Lee for the first time in team history. Last week, in a loss at NCAA Division I rival William & Mary, Clendenin picked up UMW’s lone victory in the 400 IM.
