Mary Washington, Salisbury And St. Mary's Swimmers Earn National Academic Honors

Swimmers from the University of Mary Washington, Salisbury University and St. Mary's College (Md.) earned individual and team recognition on the College Swimming Coaches Assocation of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America team.

Salisbury and St. Mary's were both named to the 2009 Team Scholar-athlete list.  For teams to be eligible, the team must have a GPA of 3.0 or better (or the equivalent converted) on a 4.00 scale for the semester.

Individually, CAC Women's Swimmer of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year representative Brie McDowell of St. Mary's earned Scholar All-America honors while three teammates and four swimmers from Mary Washington were on the Honorable Mention Scholar All-America list.

McDowell's teammates Eleanor Koerner and rising juniors Sofia Sokolove and Arielle Webster were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans.  Representing Mary Washington on the HM squad were Megan DeSmit, Kelly Scott, Leslie Holt and Justin Anderson.

To be considered as a scholar All-American, a student?]athlete must meet one of the following criteria's to be eligible: a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better (or the equivalent converted) on a 4.00 scale, a semester/quarter GPA of 3.5 or better (or the equivalent converted) on a 4.00 scale, or a school year GPA of 3.5 or better (or the equivalent converted) on a 4.00 scale.
