Mary Washington's Anderson Captures Second Gold at NCAA Swimming Championships; York's Walthall Earns All-America Honors

Mary Washington junior Alex Anderson secured his second gold medal of the 2014 NCAA Swimming Championships and third overall with a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly, while York sophomore Kyle Walthall earned All-America accolades in the 100 breastroke on Friday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

On the women's side, Mary Washington senior Amber Kerico also competed on Thursday, taking 32nd in the 100 breaststroke. Kerico touched in 1:07.03. She will conclude competition in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday, while classmate Jessica Singer will also represent the Eagles in the 1650 freestyle.

Anderson out-touched Redlands' Jeff Depew by .02, finishing in 1:45.36 to grab his third career national title. Anderson started the first 50 meters with a second lead over Depew. He kept the lead over the next 100 meters, before Depew made a furious comeback. The two would go neck and neck into the wall, but it was Anderson who outlasted Depew by the narrowist of margins.

York's Walthall, who shared CAC Swimmer of the Year honors with Anderson, made school history with an All-America performance in the 100 breaststroke on Thursday. Walthall finished 15th with a time of 56.26, becoming the first All-American in program history.

Walthall will return to the pool on Saturday morning in the 200 breaststroke prelims.
