Mary Washington Swimming Teams Extend Lead at CAC Championships; Three Records Broken on Day Two

The Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams extended their leads on the rest of the field on day two of the CAC Championships on Saturday at St. Mary's. A total of three records fell in Saturday's action. 

Through 24 events, the UMW women have compiled 624 points, followed by Marymount (336), St. Mary's (309), Salisbury (299), York (240), and Frostburg State (177). 

The UMW men have 631 points heading into the third and final day, followed by York (366), Salisbury (287), St. Mary's (262), Marymount (245), and Frostburg State (151). 

The third and final day of the 2015 CAC Championships begin with the prelims at 10 a.m. The senior recognition ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m., with the finals at 6 p.m. 

Two records were broken on the men's side, with UMW's Alex Anderson setting a new championship meet record in the 400 IM at 3:51.27 for his second individual gold of this year's championships. York's Kyle Walthall captured first in the 100 breaststroke in 55.54 after setting new a championship meet and conference record of 55.42 in the morning prelims. 

The Eagles claimed five of the eight first-place finishes in Saturday's action. The 200 medley relay team of Sean Mayer, Vance Solseth, Dallas Tarkenton and Anderson finished in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:32.57, while Tarkenton took home top honors in the 100 butterfly at 50.74. UMW also took gold in the 800 freestyle relay as the team of Tyler Gimple, Christopher Cassingham, Rob Ikeda and Zach Eisig touched in 7:00.11. 

In addition to Walthall, York's Morgan Schreiber posted an NCAA 'B' cut time of 50.81 in the 100 backstroke on his way to victory. 

Salisbury's Will Gough recorded the Sea Gulls' first gold of the championships in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:43.07

The UMW women's 200 medley relay of Katie Fago, Alex Parrish, Hannah Hagy, and Steph Hallock broke the championship and CAC marks, touching in a time of 1:45.41. 

The Eagles claimed gold in seven of the eight events on Saturday. Megan Murphy and Abby Cox posted NCAA 'B' cut times in the 400 IM, with Murphy taking first (4:31.81) and Cox finishing second (4:33.84). Shannon Coryell won the 100 butterfly (58.00), Hallock grabbed her second individual win of the championships in the 200 freestyle (1:54.37), and Fago touched first in the 100 backstroke with an NCAA 'B' cut mark of 56.91.

The UMW 800 freestyle relay of Murphy, Robin Brazier, Cox and Anna Corley also secured gold at 7:45.17. 

St. Mary's Brooke Raab captured gold in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.51 to lead the Seahawks day two effort.
